    John, all the 7 remaining p-bulbs are the same as the second picture (none have browned spikes). Does that mean that it has never bloomed except from the last p-bulb?

    That's correct, it was a first time bloom. Not uncommon at all to be getting a first bloom plant, growers cant afford to hold on to them and wait another year for bigger, better blooms. They sell them as soon as they can.
