Question Dendrobium Black Magic help needed

I purchased this Den. on line last May. It arrived with a broken spike and four leaves. Throughout the summer it lived but did not grow (no new growth of any kind). Last August it dropped its four leaves, they were on the tallest cane. With a lot of web searching on Den. culture, I gave it bright light and let it go dry, watering very little and very seldom. The canes remained plump and green. About 6 weeks ago I noticed the hint of new growth shown in the close up picture below. Since then I have increased watering frequency but not amount......kept it on the dry side.
It obviously wants/needs something from me but I am at a loss as to what. Is it time to start some serious watering?
Any thoughts/help will be greatly appreciated. I might add that I love Dens. but they hate me and this would be the first one of several that has lived and showed any promise of any kind.

I'm sorry, I don't know the parentage. I got it from an online vendor.....my first and last purchase from that particular club..........if you know what I mean.

From the picture, it looks like a hybrid heavy on the Spatulata type. You can find culture sheets for this type of dend by googling or looking on the AOS site.

The new growth looks like the begining of a keiki.

Been doing all of that Clint, (the link at AOS and googled myself silly) I think it just hates me.

Canes look to plump and are not ribbed to be spatulata.....don't know tho as you said perhaps a hybrid.
Great, all I need is a keiki, lol, can't grow the adult I'll surely mess up a 'kid' !

I've only been to Maine one time in March 1995. I walked across the Canadian border from Edmunston, New Brunswick to Madawaska, Maine! Gosh..you people must be freezing to death at the moment. It's like 65 degrees in my office and I'm shivering!
