There's another big branch that grows along the balcony rail, but it's hidden by the photo angle. Some 3-4 hardwood branches are probably over 7 years old and over 4 m/13ft high, which I keep as guides and carriers of the weight. I prune it down to those branches in late autumn to induce vigorous growth in the spring. Some new branches I will keep this autumn, but most of the new growth will have to go, otherwise it will grow week and woodier than I prefer.

Thank you! It took a long time to grow it so big. This year though the blooms both intensely fragrant and huge. It must be the weather: we're having very mild spring weather (12-20C) and lots of showers. The scent welcomes me home when I come back from work, especially at night. My goal is to keep it blooming all summer. We'll see if I succeed.
