I have been told anecdotically that they eat vanda blooms, as well as other flowers such as hibiscus. But I really don't know for sure.

    He's cute!

Do those run wild in Florida or do you think he was someone's escaped pet?

They are vegetarian, and will consume you precious orchids in a trice, foliage and flowers. He is probably an escaped pet, or someone might just have gotten fed up keeping him and set him loose.

They are usually escaped pets, but I think a critical mass has been reached where there are enough of them in the wild that they are starting to breed and survive on their own. I'm starting to see them everywhere, some up to 1.5 meters long.

Wow, that is good in a way, I suppose. As long as they leave the orchids alone. hehe..
