Default Outdoor orchids - not mine :)

While sorting through old pictures on my computer, I ran across this picture of someone's backyard.
Orchids are growing happily outdoors with minimal shading and no hi-tech growing equipment.
This picture was taken in Boracay, Aklan in the Philippines in April 2005.
My greenhouse would just melt in envy if it could see this.

They must have generally overcast skies to accomplish that? The Texas sun would fry those babies in a heartbeat!

Great photo! And you're right, those orchids seem quite happy there without a lot of "help".

I tried to recall where is this place but I can't. Well it was eight years ago and Boracay Island had changed from being an island paradise into disturbed populated community. This is the way our neighbors bragged their orchid plants in their front yard; they are expensive here and having them is a status symbol. I remembered the orchids of my grandma and how I am first fascinated with lots of single bouquet Vanda flowers. The garden of my aunts are open as such so I can pluck some of their orchids seedlings when they are not around. hehehehe. what a thief, anyway I'm just a lil boy that time.

the california sun would dry those out in mere days. cacti get sunburn here. i'm so jealous, except the humidity must be really high...
