Default Night Bloomers

Two years ago Cin gave me a piece of her night blooming cactus. Last year produced several blooms. Here is a pic of the first blooms of this summer. The blooms were as big as a cabbage and filled the evening with a wonderfu fragrance. We had the neighbors over for a cactus party to watch the event!

Cin also sent me this too. The plant is getting bigger, but since I grow it in a pot, I guess it is not big enough to bloom. I keep waiting.

Yours turned out lovely, Tami.

Cheers,
BD

Yeah, I should have made margaritas but think think of it in time LOL!

Bruce, mine is in a pot, too. And only about a 6x6 inch one at that. It gets partial sun. I had it in more sun but the leaves were burning, so I put some tall hibiscus bushes next to it. Well drained soil is key also. Hope yours puts on a show for you this summer.

Tami

Mine is in a 6x6 pot as well. I have it growing in the north end of the GH. It is growing, but I have not seen any blooms yet. Maybe it has bloomed but I missed it because they are at night? But I would expect to see the dead bloom remains if that were the case. Maybe mine needs more light.

Cheers,
BD

BD, I don't know how you could have missed it! More light may be the ticket. Both mine and Cin's are on south facing walls with shade from trees or shrubs. I had four buds that just dropped off last year before they were 3 inches long - I think I was watering it too much. Maybe yours will bloom soon. I'll petition the catus flower gods on your behalf!

Thanks for the petition! My other cacti seem to bloom without pause. I bet it is a light issue. Time for a change!

Cheers,
BD
