Wildflowers

This is a discussion on Wildflowers within the The Jungle forums, part of the Land Plants category; I think the first is a wild violet.... they appear more blue in the picture ...

    I think the first is a wild violet.... they appear more blue in the picture but are a deep violet color. The last two are Trillium grandiflorum. Why one has the green is anyone's guess; they should look like the second pic.

    Trilliums are among my favorite flowers. Why MI got stuck with the 'apple blossum' as our state flower when we have so many different types of trilliums has always mystified me.

    I posted a number of green marked trilliums a few years back. If anyone is interested, I can always dreg them back up. Sadly, although it is indeed striking in appearance, that green in the flower indicates it has a virus. Infected plants generally steadily decline and die out.

    Thanks, Paul....didn't know that...you're just a wealth of knowledge! But I couldn't get you to come over and water the GH last time I went to Florida...LOL

    Another question about the virused Trillium.... Can/does it spread to the others in close proximity? And if this is the case, wouldn't it be prudent to remove it to save the others?

    As I understand things, yes it can indeed spread. Not sure if it has an insect vector or simple close proximity will due. Might have some info on the web, I imagine
