Thanks Ron...I bet it would have taken me awhile to id this plant....it kinda looks like a turtle head now that I know the name of it...it says online that this plant is being threatened in NY. Also interesting is that this plant was used as birth control by the Abenaki people.

Thanks Tim..lichen!.I never really knew what to call it before....mmm and yes..its actually a brook that leads into a pond with a rockdamn and then into another small pond then the brook empties out into the Blackstone River. I think they called it the blackstone river because after the industrial revolution the river was so polluted with dye and chemical that the rocks stayed black..damn industry

Your fall and fungi series are really beautiful Andrew, like the freshness of it all.

They look a bit like poppy heads, not sure whether that what it is.

    Thanks EMos

They deff look like poppy heads now that you mention it but those don't grow around here. They are almost like mushrooms when they come out in the spring, white and bent over like a faucet. Then come fall they change color and stretch there heads to the sky.

No worries, but you're right, they should be a kind of fungi then because of their growth habit. I hope someone will find it for you.
Should really be a nice walk, always discovering new things! Cheers
