Wow, nothing beats the natural charm of mother nature. In the swamp, do you see snakes and/or alligators?

    thanks for sharing.

I love the Fakahatchee Strand! I've been there a couple of times, but would definitely love to visit it again some day. Thanks for sharing your photos of this wonderful part of the world!

Mojamoja - we did see many alligators including one lying on the roadway in Fakahatchee. No snakes but I'm sure they saw us. I am deathly afraid of alligators, and my husband is afraid of snakes and yet we cannot resist the beauty of the swamps - go figure! I once got out of our car to photo a pond lily in Alabama. we were on the shoulder of the road right next to a swamp. When I returned to the car and got in a 6+ footer swam away from my side of the car. I had been with a foot or two and did not see him!! Yikes.

Thanks for your post ASAF! My info in Oeceoclades maculata is from page 166 of "Wild Orchids of Florida" (copywrite 2005)by Paul Martin Brown. He states that the species was first introduced in Miami-Dade countiy in 1974 and has since spread.
However it came to be in Florida it is a beautiful plant and I am thrilled to have seen one!
