    Default Mussaenda flowering season, Philippines

Here are some of my favorite ornamental plants at home...

Mussænda erythrophylla cv. Doña Corazon Aquino and Mussænda erythrophylla cv. Doña Evangelina Macapagal are cultivars created by the research scientists from University of the Philippines Los Baños.

Mussænda philippica cv. Doña Aurora Quezon, an indigenous Mussænda mutant with 5 large equal petaloids discovered in Mount Makiling, Laguna, Luzon island, Philippines.

And my newly acquired plant, Mussænda philippica x erythrophylla cv. Doña Imperialis a.k.a Calcutta Sunset also in bloom.

Thanks Decoy for the specific names of the Mussaendas. We have a lot of mussaendas growing here as ornamentals even by our highways but have always referred to them simply as pink, red or yellow mussaendas. At least now I know the names of some of them.

I simply loved them much. I haven't completed these collections. Those varieties that I don't have are the most expensive and very rare in garden collections. And the latest I have acquired is very expensive, Mussænda philippica x erythrophylla cv. Doña Imperialis a.k.a Calcutta Sunset. The plant is sold 1 foot tall at 25 US dollars = 1,132 pesos here in the Philippines that took me to save my daily allowances for long time to buy it.

    Thanks for your appreciation.

Calcutta Sunset is lovely. I've seen the red and white mussaenda in India growing lush and beautiful. I really like the white one in your pictures too.

I like them all but my favouites are Corazon Aquino for its brilliant red; Mutya for floofiness and Maria Clara, which reminds me of a maiden's blush.

    Once again thanks for sharing.
