    Stef, it does grow into a large bush, sometimes even a small tree. You're right though, it has this unruly look because of its loose, twiggy growth. Aphids love this plant.

    Most likely Bletilla striata grows in Virginia outdoors. Beautiful purple flowers. Actually they need some cold temperature winter. Think they may be zone 7 but better double check

    Update:

    Unfortunately, I lost both bushes. They got to be big bushes but somehow deteriorated after sometime.
