Default Cestrum nocturnum "Lady of the Night" - My Fragrant Hedge 5

This is the fifth bush in the hedge. Locally known as "Dama de Noche".
It is the most fragrant amongst the plants in the hedge. Bunches of small greenish white flowers emit an intense fragrance that spreads around the entire garden and the nearby neighborhood. It permeates even the indoor areas.

Before, when I didn't know any better, I thought that someone was burning some fragrant oils or had sprayed some air freshener. That's how intense the scent is.

    Fragrant only at night.

thats beautiful Angel, I remember when I was a kid, a neighbor has one of these and we always play near their house just to catch the fragrance that these plants produce.

Wow, how cool Angel! I wish we could grow orchids outside. It is warm here in Virginia in the summer but we do get much cooler temps in the winter
Thanks for sharing your beautiful pics with us!

Thanks Randy. My neighbors also appreciate its fragrance. They stay outdoors longer when the Dama is in bloom.

Hello Angelique. Perhaps you can grow some cooler growing orchids in containers and take them outside in summer.

Hi, nice to "meet you" Angel. Yep, that's what I've been doing this summer. We've had a really warm summer this year and my orchids seem to love it outside.

It is truly wonderful, Bruce. At times though it can get overpowering when smelled up close. The sweet and heavy fragrance is best smelled from a distance. I think there are only a few plants, if any, that are more fragrant than this.

One night last year I was walking in Jamaica where I went last year for a week and I could smell some amazing scent I did not know where it came from. I followed it and was coming from a unruly bush of Cestrum nocturnum. The flowers were greenish and incospicuos but that scent was haunting. I bought a small plant that grew fast but this Bayer systemic I used before putting it outside killed it with a few more plants.
I will be looking for another one, possibly small.

Yeah the smell is truly amazing and strong.

I is part of the Solanaceae so related to Peppers and Nightshades etc, not a true jasmine

Angelique, my Aunt in California has a lot of cymbidiums outdoors. But then California is much warmer. Tropical orchids like the vanda and its kin need so much light, heat and humidity to bloom and they are ungainly in containers.
