    Default Haworthia emelyae

Bought this plant because I liked its leaves. Not sure how well the photo really shows it but the flatter "tops" of the leaves are what I found nifty. Those darker areas you see between the striations/leaf veins are not areas of darker pigmentation. Rather those are areas in which pigmentation, even chlorophyll are pretty much lacking altogether. The cells in those areas are actually translucent so what you are essentially seeing are windows into the main body of the leaf. Light passing through these "windows" shines on chloroplasts deeper down inside the leaf.

The plant is less than 2 inches (5 cm) tall but currently has a flower spike over a foot and a half (roughly 45cm) in length and still growing! Flowers are somewhat sequential in blooming. Haven't detected any fragrance. Sorry the pics aren't better. If I have time and think about it before its done blooming, I'll try to get some better flower pics.

Very nice Pavel. I have seen them among the succulents being sold but never knew their name.

Very interesting. Great discription, too. As soon as I read it, I could see what you meant but otherwise would have only seen pigment.
