Beautiful pictures, Zainal. Pictures of Gurney Drive always bring back memories of my childhood, about 60 years ago, when I used to spend my school holidays holidays in Penang. We stayed in our family bungalow in Tanjong Bungah and sometimes in a friend's family mansion on Gurney Drive. What a fun time we children had, swimming in the sea at Tanjong Bungah and Gurney Drive. The water then was pristine and unpolluted.Nowadays I dare not even put my toes into the water! Gurney Drive was then known as 'Millionaires' Row' with all mansions of the rich situated there. Most of the old mansions are still there and now listed as heritage buildings.

What a pity you couldn't spend more time at Gunung Jerai. Used to be a favourite place of mine. Have not been there for years but a planned trip is coming up soon when the weather gets better.

Thanks Yew, wow... 60 years ago, myself still is not exist in this world, I bet at that time there are so many wild orchids in Penang especially area of Bukit Bendera and Mukahid. In year 1986 when I was in USM I used to be in Ayer Itam I'm together with my friend from Penang begin to explore foothill of Bukit Bendera surprisingly I found a lots of Habenaria like rhodocheila with the color is all yellow. Then when I come back again in year 2000 hardly to see even one very sad. Gunung Jerai maybe bad day never mine some day I will go again. As you said we leaved only sweet memories and already become a history.

I always enjoy seeing these plants in their natural environment. I can't help but feel that even in this tropical setting life for a orchid or Nepenthes is not easy. Great photos as always! AL

I'm so glad the orchids and nepenthes are still flourishing on Gunung Jerai. I understand the Forestry Department is setting up an Eco Park there featuring plants unique to the area.
