The jewel orchids are quite interesting since they are not very tall, and the forest where I saw them had a lot of deciduous trees. I wondered how they could survive without being buried by falling leaves, and concluded that they must grow very fast, despite the low light. When I got home after that trip, I moved my only jewel orchid off the growing bench, and put it down on the floor, below the bench, to see what happened. In a month it grew as much as it had managed on the bench in a whole year.
There is nothing like seeing orchids in the wild (and using eyes and brain) for improving culture !
Continue my journey to look for more wild orchids this time is Telok Cempedak Pahang looking around the coastal area hoping can find some species.
P1 and P2 Immediately after I saw this view I had already positive thinking maybe some wild orchids I can find here.
P3 and P4 I think these are virgin forest as you can see all the plants very huge and tall if there are wild orchids sure very high.
P1 the first thing I saw was Hoya species covering the tree trunk massively I cant see any flower out of season.
P2 Cymbedium species growing very healthy with long leaves on top of huge rock.
P3 Large colonies of Dendrobium crumenatum again growing very well on the surface of the giant rock.
P4 I was spotted something growing on the stump of this tree.
P1 miniature Bulbophyllum species this one can tolerate high sodium in their environment.
P2 to P4 Dendrobium species most of them are leafless very strange I dont know what it is all are very high from the ground again they all adapted very well with high sodium load on the bark.
I enjoy the scenery along with those wild orchid photographs Zain. How much climbing did you have to do to get these plant shots? AL
Would like to show you few scenery in Telok Cempedak for those who interested to visit here there are hotel for accommodation near the beach as shown in the photos I saw quite a number of Caucasians together with their family enjoying the panorama there.
Few more photos.
On the way back noted Macaque on the roof of the car maybe looking for food and could be thinking how fill up the stomach before the sun set.
