    Default Autumn in New England

It's the time of year when not much new is blooming, just the hearty mums and asters. Most everything is dying off and it's time to clean up the garden and start putting it to bed for the Winter. I've spent the past week digging out weeds and preparing the new bed for transplanting my bearded iris to a sunnier location. I've been watching this plant all summer and when it finally started to set buds a few weeks ago I dispaired that it might become to cold to bloom. But not so, I have a fair number of buds ready to burst open each evening this week. I present my night blooming morningglorying! The bloom lasts one night, it slowly opens during the afternoon to full bloom in later afternoon and in the morning it is all shiveled up.

Wonderful! I tried to buy some morning glory seeds earlier to plant at my apartment down her at school, but apparently a lot of people are using them to get high nowadays, and it was just too much trouble to buy them. I guess I'll just buy some up home in PA next year where people are a bit more trusting. Ha ha. Sorry for that off topic little rant there.

    ANYWAY, great morning glories! :-)

Love the star shape in the blooms, Martha. Now that it is starting to cool off, maybe some of our late summer/ fall blooms will start opening. It was so hot here that I worry we may not see many late blooms. Most everything growing outside here has been baked with the awful heat.

    cheers,
    BD
