    Default Cactus Flowers

Long ago I raised and collected cactus. I bought my first house from a man in 1983 that had large cactus in his back yard. "Kids and dogs dont play in them" he told me. I had a fairly decent collection at one time and then one day my kids collected all the tags out of the pots and gave them to me as a present......Ahhhhh, the joys of children. Both of my childrens first words was "Oweeee" is response to touching cactus.
Anyway, I have a few left and they bloomed last month. Beautiful flowers for such spikey plants. Both flowers are about 5"/130mm across.

Too bad cacti flowers are so short lived -- they are often incredibly beautiful like yours are, Craig. That 2nd pic is excellant btw!

Not to upsurp Craig's thread, but since he already started a cacti flower post, I figured it would be easiest just to add the pics I was going to post in the same thread.

The first two are of a small pot of lithops that I have managed not to kill. (A rare situation in and of itself.) The last of a Mammilaria.

I always have space for a few cacti and not just the jungle kind (which look great as companions with tillandsia, nepenthes and orchids) but also the desert ones. Theres an attraction to the macabre aswell as just being windowsill classics and old time favourites. Cacti were my childhood thing and still have one today. a monstrous? looks like a brain mass. Gotta love it! Great blooms!
