Babies are also able to flare their 'hood', BD. Such flaring only occurs when the snake feels threatened.

Unfortunately, those stories are all too true.

I have a walking cane that is made of wood. I carry it when I walk in the yard here because i've been told of all the snakes we have in the area. So far i've only had to use my cane one time...we have a black snake that is a non venomous type but they still scare me. A couple waves of the stick...or a couple thumps on the ground seems to work so far. I'm thankful we don't have cobra's....you were very brave to take those pictures!! And I am very glad to hear your son's eye is healthy again.

Very brave of you to take the excellent pictures. Glad to know your son's vision is OK. As you know my place Kedah and neighbouring Perlis are well-known for snakes - that is why Perlis has the institute for snake venom research. But in the north here spitting cobras are rare but the other varieties like the spectacled cobras and king cobras abound.

MUst have been a terrible experience but glad your son's vision was unaffected ultimately. Snakes scare the heck outta me..everyone says they are more scared of us..but hey I dont have fangs dripping with poison which can cause me to die terribly! Scary scary scary!
