    Thanks for sharing. Nice to see eria ornata growing in situ. Relating to a post on culture of this species a while back, now I see it grows on dry bark, but I believe the area would receive heavy mists and dew. I think the first jewel orchid (below eria ornata) is macodes petola, not dossinia marmorata.. Macodes leaves are greener and lack the heavy shiny veining in dossinia leaves..

    I didn't recoognise this as E ornata, as I have never see a red form. It grows in great rafts yards across, on exposed areas of rock ( rooted into the fissures) in one of the Thailand National Parks, and the flowers there are yellow.

    Interesting. And I thought the red/orange form is the typical one, as it turns up more often in internet searches..

    wow yes this is the way they grow , How nice to see this thank you I have 3 Jewel Orchids and one of them is in bloom right now every late fall and winter here in the NE of the US. The tiny flowers are blooming up the stalk right now and my 2nd stalk is ready to open up on it's lower flowers how pretty the leaves may be on the red leves one s. deLadyBex
