    Default terrestrial jewel orchids

some terrestrial orchids i photograph in one of the highlands excursion about 1000meter. This highland was bordering kalimantan and as seen here miles and miles of greenery except small brown patches can be seen due to shifting agriculture by the native.

Anoectochilus roxburghii looks very much like that ; I found it growing on the floor of a very dark jungle in a Thailand National Park , and wondered how it coould survive without being buried by falling leaves ( the forest was mixed, some annually deciduous trees as well as the usual "ever-green" trees which also shed their leaves even if not all at once. I concluded that it must be a very fast grower, to keep growing through the leaf litter. When I got home I moved my plants of that species from the bench down under the bench - so as t reduce the light level to a great extent, and yes, the growth rate leapt up !
They used to be grown for their lovely leaves - a hundred years in UK - indoors under "bell cloches" - glass domes, so as hold the humidity , and of course they do well even in poorly lit rooms for the reason I mention. It was then conventional to take the flowers off. The flowers are nothing to get excited about , anyway - and the leaves then grow faster too.

Great pics and thanks for sharing them with us. I really need to get some of these. I am one of the rare ones who love the flowers. They create interesting form and textures in orchid arrangements.

Thanks all for viewing and comments.
Thanks Zainal for the the id. and Geoff for the in-situ observation and precise explanation. It was part of a mossy forest where the forest floor is always moist with rotting leaves, very dim light due to shade by tall trees and dapple sunlight.
