All seems well. I have a couple of propane tank heaters (they are so cheap to run). It is 31 at the moment. It will fall a few more degrees before the sun comes up.
I walked into the shadehouse at 4:30a.m. and it was warm and humid. I would imagine around 60 degrees. Now for the yard...that is another story. I have many tropicals planted all over. They didn't fair so well.
Martha..tell your sister one more night of cold weather

we knew what you meant Cathy, but overlooked during your period of chaos and confusion! I certainly would not appreciate being in your position, proves how much care, love and dedication is invested in our gardens/ collections!.

Cathy - It's a day late for you but up north here one night slightly below freezing is not considered a killing frost so I wouldn't worry too much about the plants in your yard. If you have another night you can do what some home gardeners do up here to extend their vegetable season a little bit longer - just throw some blankets over your plants. You'd be surprised how well this works. Another option if you have this is bubble wrap. You can wrap your very tender plants in a few layers of bubble wrap and that should protect them overnight. Do it in the afternoon to trap some of the heat. Good luck and I hope your plants survived last night.

Well, I believe it was about -10 in the frozen hellhole that is Upstate New York.

Got to be 59 degrees in the apartment last night, my Neo's probably loved it, but my Phrag maybe not so much.

It's totally abnormal for it to get like this, even the weather guy was explaining it on the news the other day. Apparently he received a ton of emails after saying it was cold outside during a weather segment on our local news. He explained on his next segment that those of you down here on vacation may think 60 degrees is warm, however, those of us used to warmer temperatures will be wearing coats and complaining when it gets that cold here. Thankfully the new greenhouse and a small space heater kept the plants above 55 F. I have a new heater ordered and when it arrives it will keep it closer to 60-65 F. on cold nights. In the meantime we aim the space heater at the vanda section and even though we went down to 53 last night around the edges of the greenhouse, the vanda section was closer to the high 50's. I am looking forward to the new unit. It should make heating and cooling much easier to control. I'll just be glad when it heats back up this weekend.

I was going to tease you about that, but chose to interpret it as your preparing to do "battle" w/ Mother Nature.
