Its Vanda Thwaitesii from western ghats .. Its smaller species compare to all other vanda species with very strong fragrant. Its originally reported from Sri Lanka where it is now believed extinct, this species was recently rediscovered from Kerala and Karnataka after more than 100 years.

Great photos Satish and Deepak. How I envy you young people! How i wish I were 40 years younger! I had my share of jungle trekking in my younger days and my one regret was that I didn't bring a camera along. Thanks to people like you, Zainal and Canh and the digital camera we ar able to share your experiences. Once again thanks and keep those pictures coming.

Hi folks, We did not really get into the jungle but stuck to the road-side mostly near coffee plantations. The only exception was we did climb a tiny hillock and looked around. Maybe next time I will be able to get into the forest up and close. As Deepak mentioned, it is Vanda thwaitesii. It has a beautiful, thick, almost pouch like lip. It was way up on the tree and looking from the bottom, I got confused if it was a bud and not fully opened. On going closer to the tree and using the camera's zoom lens, figured out that it was indeed a flower!
