This is a beautiful Begonia species - unnamed. It was collected several times in Mexico along an extremely moist hill side in Veracruz, growing along with gunnera, and B.
It lives in an enclosed dome under lights for added humidity.
Very nice! Awesome foliage.
That foliage is wild! So pretty.
the colours is immersely beautiful. Have you ever made any cross or self pollinate any of your begonias, cathay?
No Robert I haven't. I buy species seed from the Begonia Society and have had mixed results.
I received new info on this species.
"Cathy, if you'd like a little history on this plant I'll tell you that I have grown it for over 30 years. I originally grew it as B. xanthina v. picta, and showed it many times at both the ABS conventions and the SWR get-to-gethers under that name. I donated many plants and starts to both for their plant sales, and also have distributed it widely on an international basis. Harmony sold it for sometime under the name B. xanthina "Henthorne". After asking Mark Tebbitt for help in verifying its name, and asking ABS to give it a U# until we could get it id'd properly, Mark reported back to me that indeed it did seem to be a color variation of B. xanthina, and was in the same family. Positive ID is ongoing and I hope to indeed have the id of B. xantina v. picta finalized in the near future. For any futher questions feel free to email me personally. Charles Henthorne"
The foliage so beautiful.
It IS beautiful - I love the swirls of chartreuse!
