    Default revisiting the kelabit highlands

I have an opportunity to make another visit with the long holiday. Taking a rural flight service run by Malaysian airlines-Maswing Twin otter that only take 16 passengers, i managed to obtain a seat ( seats were over booked with the long holiday)

The flight took only 55mins. Flying above 9000ft providing a clear bird eyeview of the landscape. Lands were logged and transform into oil palm plantation.

Visible tracks left by the logging vehicles

From the interior the logs were transported by tug boat.

A distance away, quite visible of the airstrip, an impressive view of the world Heritage site-The Mulu National Park with its surrounding hills, mountains, and the Baram river.

A closer view of the park. The Mulu mountain on the lower right.

Further inland the landscape become more rugged and mountainous. This part of Boneo is still hardly explored. Batu Lawi ( the twin peak, as they vaguely referred to, the lower ones referred to as female peak and the taller male peak)

The village has a small airstrip

Scenery in the early morning- heavy mist and cool temperature + high humidity.

Kelabit highland encompassed a wide area and contain many endemic plants.
Some orchid photos taken during my short visit. There are probably more orchid species to discover but due to time constraint and walking long distance a return trip will only be possible.

Wow Robert! Great pictures. What a fantastic place. Really must try to visit the place. The temperature and humidity reminds me of the Cameron Highlands. Thanks for sharing.

most welcome Yew Sung. I will continue to visit the place when i have free time. There are many isolated hamlets worth visiting with interesting local foods, culture and nature.
