nice collection, I've always admired the forms of cactus and succulents have made in their adaptation to their environment.

I'm a fan of lithops too, but the one time I tried them, they didn't do well. If I had more information on how to grow them, I might try again!

LOL. Even mesembs need water, Coeruleo. The thing is how much and when as well as what media to use. The ones typically sold by the BBSs tend to be potted up in what will prove to be utterly crap-tacular media for most folks. (Not unlike the debates which arise over using pure sphag for phals -- while it is very possible to do so and do so well, it is not a good media for many people.) That is typically the first huge problem folks face. Currently mine are in a very well draining mix.

While most of mine did indeed multiply this past spring, I have only had these for about two years now. So any advice I provide must be taken with a grain of salt (perhaps even a teaspoon). I'm still learning and, as with orchids, what turns out to work for me might not work well for you. So do take this into account.

Mine sat on a chilly window ledge all winter. During that time they received zero water. (Not even misting or sips.) As spring approached, it was evident that the new leaves were beginning to develop and the old to wither. Water was still withheld though I did give the Fenestraria sips of water as it had already created its new leaves. (This plant really should not be in the same pot as it has different needs, but I want to see if I can make it work.) Once the old leaves had been reduced to empty wrappings then I began watering. I am planning on leaving them outside for the summer -- rain or shine. Once the cooler temps of fall approaches however, they will be brought back in as I worry about cold + wet = rot. Water will be steadily decreased until -- as true cold sets in -- water will be completely withheld.
