    Wink Lamprocapnos or Bleeding Hearts

Along with the varigated vine I posted earlier, my shady flower bed has Lamprocapnos in bloom. The common name is Bleeding Hearts. I love how the blooms just hang onto the plant like pendants.

Is Lamprocapnos a synonym for Dicentra spectabilis? We have these too, also the red and white ones.

Yes. Depending on which taxonomist guide you follow, one will be preferred over the other. See: Synonyms of Common Bleedinghearts (Dicentra spectabilis) - Encyclopedia of Life

I've been crazy busy, so didn't explore these areas of the forum. I too have one of these, just planted 3 more.

Also have an iris patch over a yard across--must have been naturalizing for 40 years, fabulous perfume. My work-weary fairly large hands show how big the flowers are, and their perfume is *amazing*--like a thousand violets!

Lovely Iris and bleeding hearts, Phalspital. A couple days ago I put in my summer garden and had to work on my tiller. The crank string broke and the carburetor was stopped up. By the time I was finished pulling on the crank string I had three big blisters on my right hand too. I know that pain well. haha...

    cheers,
    BD

Well these were from pulling out a 20' high ivy tree attached to the old house wall. Base trunk measured around 5" in diameter. It fought me every inch of the way. Now the house can be painted, once the plaster is repaired where the ivy damaged it. The garden is an out-of-control jungle--I'm still waiting to see what comes up next as summer comes on. Planted 30 late-blooming narcissus (earlicheer, avalanche, soleil d'or...) and found a neglected yellow peony in the underbrush that must be 40 years old too.
