Default Shell Ginger (Alpinia zerumbet )

Happen to see this ginger plant while walking down St Charles Blvd. in New Orleans. At first the flower buds intrigued me, but as I got closer I saw this beautiful flower. I continued to take pictures looking for the best shot. A passerby looked at me as though I was crazy. It appears that only a few flowers open at the same time. Name: Shell ginger 1 - 1.jpg

They are pretty! I plant some in the garden every year but the season is too short to see flowers. Started some indoors in February to transplant. Hopefully that will work.

I have it under lights right now but will plant it outside around the middle of June.
