    Default Anyone else foolishly spend money on plants ...

    ... they know they can't keep alive? Usually I can resist, but in a moment of pathetic stupidity/weakness I found myself in possession of a cyclamen. *sigh* For me they are not easy plants to keep alive long term. But I like the flowers & the color was Christmasy so..........

    I gave up trying to keep them alive many years ago! Now, I just stop and admire them and then go straight for the orchids. I just wish that more of them were red.

    I bought one a few months ago. Its been dead for a few months. I still have the bulb potted though. Now I know Im not the only brown cyclamen thumb

    Cyclamen are no problem in Newfoundland. I have 8 species now, both hardy ones outside and more tender inside. I've even had a florist type blooming non-stop for 2 years. Our cool temps in summer keep them actively growing and my growing area inside is cool in winter, so they are happy campers. Here's one I grew from seed.

    Cyclamen coum is not reliably hardy here so I grow them in a pot. They bloom from early January till April in a cool window. This is one of the pewter leaved selections. Actually Cyclamen are my second passion to orchids.
