Ron, great trip photos! Amazing. The butterfly is so beautiful. I can only imagine what it must have been like to trek through the forest stepping over orchids. How cool. I hope one day to do a trip like that. I have always loved travel. Thanks for the great photos.

    Cheers,
    BD

Roraima has become an obsession for me. Now it comes down to...take the easy way through Venezuela or take the hard way through Guyana (coming in through the Brazilian side appeals, but that requires a VISA. And, the "easy" way really isnt that easy, but treking through the Gran Sabana would be worth it. My only thought then is...how far away is Canaima State Park? If its not that far, then Salto Angel has to be a stop, even if it would be to charter a flight along with a bunch of base jumpers to the top...though, I've bungied off of the New River Gorge bridge, and I have made up my mind not to repeat anything similar to that...hanggliding is safe enough for me

Okay, Aaron - mount an expedition! Figure a group of 10-20, in shape, but ranging in age. Come up with an itinerary or a rough idea, and then tell us what details you need. I figure with a few years to plan it, we could mount some pretty slick forum field trip, given the folks we have among us!

Some of us have contacts native to the regions. We can do this!

Beautiful. South American is wonderful. I haven't done Peru.

McEnthusiastic ...Perhaps we should consider a 'training excercise' first and do Costa Rica... More roads, more trails, less altitude, and still tons of orchids, orchids, birds, butterflys... Easy and relatively inexpensive. and the range of terrain from coast to rain forests.
