Default I'm soooo geeked! Been wanting one of these

for a while now. Tried some from seed but they didn't make it. This is one a friend's parents gave me. Before I tell ya what it is, let's see if anyone can make an educated guess, shall we?

The plant including pot is about 2-3 feet tall. What you see is actually a single compound leaf. I really like the leaf form as well as the stem coloration

This plant grows from a bulb/tuber [ya I know those are really 2 different things]. I'll still have a couples years to wait before it gets big enough to bloom.

Well according to the counter, looks like a number of folks have looked at this thread but by lack of response have no idea (don't blame ya there)

Bruce you are correct -- this is a "stinky"! It is one of the arums collectively known as voodoo lilies. My friend's folks have no idea which species it is [could be Sauromatum guttatum/venosum or Dracunculus vulgaris for instance].

I'm rather hoping it's Dracunculus -- the flower is spectacular IMO. Supposed to be very large flowers -- about 9 inches [21cm] tall if I remember correctly. Only problem ... the flowers, from what I'm told, don't just stink -- they REEK! [It pollenated by flies and so produces an aroma of rotting meat.] Being that I live in an apt, this could be an issue in a couple years when it reaches blooming size. [ [But isn't the foliage cool!?]

My buddy's father told me that the first time it bloomed for them, the smell was SOOOOOO bad that he cut the flower off after the first day the stench kicked in, put it in a bag and threw it outside with the intention of taking it to the trash later. Next morning the bag was gone but he could see the footprints of some canine that apparently thought it had found something scrumptious. [Wonder if the bugger was disappointed to wind up with "vegetarian" cuisine?]

I have some raccoons I would like to disappoint, maybe they would go some where else.

If you figure out how, let me know!!!

Pavel - if you get it to blooming size, start looking for an arboretum that would like to 'have it on loan' for the blooming.... save you looking for a new place to live.

Very cool. The flowers almost remind me of a Nepenthes.
