Homemade Peach Ice Cream
Since I live in Clarksville (the peach capital of the Ozarks) I have learned to enjoy all the fresh peaches that come with early summer. Here is one of my favorite peach deserts that I will be looking forward to in the coming months. The following recipe will make about 1 and a half quarts of Ice Cream.
PEACH ICE CREAM
First, select 6 medium to large peaches (right off of the tree is best).
Peel them and remove the seed. (If you do not have fresh peaches, use 4 cups of frozen, unsweetened peach slices and defrosted)
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
3 cups heavy cream
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract ( I use a little more, but do this how you like it)
First in a large bowl, cut the peaches into tiny pieces and mash to make a course puree. Then, stir in 1/4 cup of the sugar. Cover this and put it in the refrigerator for about one hour.
Next, mix the remaining 3/4 cup sugar, the cream, the milk and the vanilla into the peaches. Mix this with a mixing machine on low or simply stir until it is well blended. Return the mixture to the refrigerator for 3 - 4 hours. If in a rush, put in the freezer, but do not let the mixture freeze. You want it very cold, but not frozen yet.
Finally, hand stir the mixture and pour it into the canister of your ice cream maker. Hand churn (or electric churn if you would rather) the mix until the mixture freezes.
Serve the ice - cream directly from the canister. If you freeze the leftovers for later, the peaches sometimes freeze harder than the ice-cream. I like this, but some may not.
Enjoy!!
Cheers,
BD

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .

Hmm! Early summer? I don't have ripe peaches until August.

sounds yummy but no fresh peaches here until August either. Now let's modify this for orange pineapple or dark chocolate orange and I am set to go.

Makes me want to go out and buy an ice cream maker! Hmm, maybe it'll be my next 'points' purchase. I get stuff using the points from our credit card. Last time was a bread maker and an ipod. I love free stuff almost as much as I love ice cream!

August? Really? Our peaches come in here towards the end of June. We have a big parade and Peach festival in July.
I bet oranges would be a good substitute. I know strawberries work too.
Cheers,
BD
