Very true, Clint, I have 2 cats, one gets high as a kite on catnip but the other one doesn't care for it at all. Also as far as purging, I think cats need grass-like foliage. Catnip is for "recreational" use.

Oh, having the kitty put down was never an option. The alternatives to keeping him were (1) seeing if someone had lost the little cutie pie or (2) finding him a good home through either the newspaper or a no-kill shelter. But as you can see from the other post, the little guy has wiggled and purred his way into the family.

I think you just have to try.....and if they decide to munch orchids you need to tell them it's wrong!as well as provide, grass, catnip or 'malt'
I have had 5 cats the time i have been growing orchids & none of the cats ever tried to 'eat ' my orchids..infact none of my plants...But, they have always been able to go outside to eat grass and I have always given the cat malt againds fur balls in their digestive system.....

My cat (actually she's the one really called Bethia Kitt - Bethy for short aka Da Podge) has never shown any interest in any of my orchids. While she can get Royal Canin for breakfast and dinner, who needs plants, she says.

I've just added two carnivorous plants to my windowsill collection - so far she's shown no interest in those either - nor they in her :-)

But of course every cat is different. I hope you'll be OK with yours. Give her something more interesting than orchids to nibble on...

Lambert your cat is adorable and Beth yours is just lovely!!

I have three lil' devils.. The grey tabby was rescued as a kitten that was found lost and crying. The tortie was adopted as her companion (they don't really like each other though). The black and white is a rescue that was a neighborhood stray. One night we heard a terrible cat fight and found him outside all bloodied up. We took him to the vet and he has been ours ever since. It's a good thing we did because it turns out he has a bad hyper thyroid condition and hip dysplasia.

Come on lets see some more cat pics everyone!!!

Tabby starting from when we found her:

She's thinking about her dinner, Lambert - she lives to eat, that's why I call her Da Podge.

She is rather beautiful, though, I totally agree - of course!

The cat thread is back on, so here's cat #2 for me (cat #1 is somewhere up in this thread), got her weaned too soon and very malnourished from a shelter 4 years ago but that's all in the past now!

Awww what a beauty Lambert! I finally got my cat pics posted up there after a slight computer hiccup. I saw your other cat too and it was adorable!
