Managed to get one click with the ol' camera before this young, strapping fellow (or fellow-ette) went skittering off the trail into the woods.

Wow, that's a fantastic shot. Aren't Florida black bears endangered or at least seriously decreasing in population? You are fortunate to have caught a glimpse of this fellow!

Nice shot, beautiful! & lucky you weren't in the way of his mama! ( although he looks like a "teenager" so maybe mama was no longer in the picture) Along some of the East coast Black Bears are close to becoming a "pest" level, far from "endangered".

I'm a northern hillbilly....lol...that now lives in Florida as well. The bears up in Michigan wouldn't just jog with you, they'd leave you with a love bite to remind you to stay out of their neighborhood nexttime! I cannot believe it just took off without even a snarl! I'd have had a seriously embarrassing case of wet drawers after a jog with that fellow.

Yikers. Nice picture! That bear would have been taking my picture, and eating my lunch, and playing with my shoes and whatever else I left behind.

I'll never forget a little adventure I had a few years ago along the trail in Georgia. A bear got my pack on my second night of camping, and I wasn't even at the main camp yet. When I got there and talked with the ridge-runner, it was like a regular Yogi Bear plot! He was getting exact details from me of how high I had slung the pack, etc and repeating them into a cell, letting his colleague up the trail know, and he was saying "yep, it was him, same one, and now he's further south!" *LOL* They were off like it was an episode of "Cops" or something... I never did find out what they intended to do about that bear. I had wasted $38 on a "bear-bag", too.
