Not crazy about the whole reptilian aspect of it but it looks like such a unique ecosystem!

The best experience will be if you all plan a trip together (let's say next spring?!) and then we all go together!!! That will be a real fun!!!
I was thinking of visiting another one soon- the Big Cypress National Preserve, but after the "big guy" I don't think my husband will take me there any time soon...LOL

I live not far from there; wow, has it been hot and steamy lately. I think I will visit sometime next winter! Keep hearing about the thousands of non-native pythons that have been released into those areas--gives me pause.

Heat didn't bothered too much (I do better when is hot, but I can't stand the cold) I was just way to excited to think about the heat.
Wow...I will take the cold any day of the week over heat. Heat makes me grouchy, unmotivated, and tired. I always feel invigorated during the cooler months.

Very nice trip though...glad you had a good time and shared it with us.

Sorry, Ron, I have no clue! I just liked it... If someone else can help identifying it, it will be great!

Thanks for the pics and tale, Margo! we hope to visit Fakahatchee soon. Did you take a tour or just drive thru? I love the hair on the palms; don't know what it's called but its just cool.
PS the park rangers say if the gater is sunning he's already eaten and is probably not interested in you - unless you are near a lady's nest. It's the ones in the water you should look out for - they are hunting.
    'nuff said bout gators.
If you get the chance go to Corkscrew Sancutary. Lots of cool stuff!!!

    Tami
