    Default My New Love!

Hi everyone. I've been MIA for much of the summer. This is why... I rescued a racehorse this spring. Skylar (formerly "He's a Tiger Too") came home with me in May, underweight, stressed and burned out, with ulcers and with a skin problem. Anyway, he's four years old, super sweet, kind and gentle, and incredibly smart. His great grandfather is Secretariat and he has Bold Ruler and Northern Dancer in his pedigree. I've been riding him all season, and training him to be a versatile saddle horse -- perhaps we will be doing some eventing one day. The ulcers have cleared up, his coat has improved, he's gained weight, and is starting to gain some muscle tone... These are before and after photos -- the top two were taken at the track in April, the bottom two in late September. He's hard to photograph because he always wants to have his muzzle on my shoulder! :-)

Thanks, guys! Good to be back (the long winter nights will help!). Yes, he is sound... I immediately pulled his race shoes and we dealt with some pretty tender feet for awhile, but that has improved and he also now has fancy new hoof boots which protect him when we ride. I am working toward having him go completely barefoot... given time and some proper hoof care. Time will tell. We are both lucky to have found each other!

what a doll...dappled gray...nice! He appears fairly small...how many hands? Our first horse was a Paso Fino/Mustang mix...bred in Mexico...never had him shod.

Hi Ron! Thanks... he's approx. 15.3, not huge, and pretty fine-boned for a thoroughbred. He MIGHT grow just a little more? And your Paso Fino/Mustang sounds really cool. What a neat mix of breeds... must have been hardy and graceful!
