Here is more of "nice" caterpillar alive (the above was a death one), this one of the threat in the forest. The hair of this one look very soft but infact it very hard and it can make you ....very painful when you touch it.
Chu, that is a cool caterpillar! It is interesting to me how it is so beautiful and dangerous at the same time. When I was growing up in East Texas, as a child I rode horses in the woods around my parents home. I remember seeing hairy caterpillars similar to this one (only not as cool looking) that were greenish in color. They would be on the leaves of different trees. If one of those guys touched bare skin - OMG it would hurt. I remember being stung several times. I don't see these around Arkansas where I live now, though.
