I'm not really too sure. I think this is actually (now that I think about it) the first time mine has bloomed. I did not cut it back this year, although it did get a few weeks of rest (dark, cool, and dry), and I think it may have died back on its own, but I don't remember. At any rate, yours is much happier than mine, so I think I'll have to say that you must know far better than I what they want, even if all either of us knows is vague uncertainties and hearsay.

BTW, I've heard the exact same thing, that you can give them some rest, but that unlike other Hippeastrum, they don't need it.

Also BTW, I have a Sprekelia (closely related) which I have yet to bloom. You don't happen to have come across anything about them, by any chance?

I don't, but I would guess that they probably need something similar and also be well established to do the bloom thing. There is a guy I've talked to a few times who is very knowledgeable about these things. He is a regular poster on another forum (yep, THAT one ) and even has a picture posted of a Hippeastreklia in the Bulb Gallery. I'm sure he would respond to an email.

Thanks Kevin; I'll have to look. The garden centers around here don't carry much of anything fancy, but there are a few nurseries about 30 miles away that might have them. This is one of those "gotta tries!"
