Okay, here's one for you. What kind of bug is this? My best guess was either a praying mantis or a grasshopper of some kind. It's belly is camoflaged against the pole. He sat nice and still and let me take several pics. I am wondering if this is what has been eating my tender new growths off my dens out front. Hmm....
Thank You! How cool is this one. It eats bad bugs...bring em on!!
Cool-kind of reminds me of a dinosaur.
These are really nifty bugs! They are part of a group called Assassin bugs. In addition to attacking their intended prey, they can an will "assassinate" humans. I know. And it hurts like hell. I just read that some people can have severe reactions to their saliva or whatever it is they inject. Fortunately for me, it was only terrible pain.
Wow weird looking bug. Reminds me of some aliens I saw on a movie once.
Well looks like others beat me to it. Some types of assassin bugs can get quite large and as Jason mentioned, some can deliver a rather painful bite.
I won't be picking any up...i'm a big wuss about bugs. When I see a bug (in the house) I generally go get the husband to kill it.
Oh Connie...I was just a happy young little Jason riding in the backseat of my grandmothers car when suddenly.......!*@*!(*#@(!@ POP! on my shoulder....I never saw the cute little thing until afterwards! Grandma didn't believe me and said, "Well those things don't bite!" MMHMMM....sure. Just watch your lounging chairs.
I will be watching my chairs...lol...you can bet! I was explaining to a friend that although i refer to this bug as "cool"...that is because it sat nice and still. If it had begun moving i'd have taken off. I'm not into bugs at all.
