    Default An Iraqi Sandstorm

A good friend is pretty high up in the Marine Corps and Intel circles and received these photos from Marine Colonel who's in Iraq to advise the Iraqi Denfense Minister. They're pretty spectacular and thought you guys might like to see them. Apparently the desert sandstorms spring up with little warning, much like our tornados. He said that the silt that gets dumped afterwards is the biggest pain and the air quality is so bad your voice is hoarse for days.

The weather here is looking better already!

    Holy Cow, Julie.

Seeing *that* coming would scare the hell out of me.

Looks like a scene right out of one of the Mummy movies!

OMG, that is incredible!! It is kind of (no - REAL) scary, but at the same time very, very beautiful.

I don't think I could live there. Dust on my glass tabletops drives me nuts.

Thanks for the pics. They're really great.

Yeah, no joke! Serious wet-yourself action. It reminded me of a tsunami.

If I hadn't known the source, I'd have suspected photo retouching, but this guy is the real deal. I was forwarded his e-mail (which had these photos). His reports of what's going on are pretty scary. While I don't agree with the war, I have nothing but sympathy for the poor kids stuck over there fighting it.

WOW! That is a very cool photograph. The first thing I thought of was the same as Louis.....from The Mummy movie.

    Thanks for sharing.

Amazing photos Julie. Thanks for sharing those. I think seeing that coming would rattle me to the core. It is an austere and formidable and beautiful landscape. The sunset just on the edge of that storm must have been awesome.
