this is just the best red peony on earth!! IMO

    Red Charm

It really is a great red one - deep garnet red - no pink, no purple. If you only own one red one, get this. Most mail order places charge a good amount for this, so try to find it in a trade or something.

Another one never before seen on this end. Never seen one that color, and had no idea they even came that way. Incredibly plush-looking, I think.

Thanks. Glad you like it. I look forward to this one every year and red isn't even a favorite color. For some reason it just isn't as strong a grower as my other ones. It took forever to bloom after I first got it.

I have a theory--when the flower of a plant is a color its group (i.e. family, genus, species, whatever) normally don't "do", the plant is often less vigorous. Whether there is anything in this theory or if it's just along the lines of Murphy's Law, I'm not sure. I do know major mutations are often more delicate. At any rate, it's a stunner!

    Cheers,

    Rob

Stunner's an understatement, Kevo - that flower is exquisite! Worth some cranky growing habits!

    PS - do I dead-head dalias?

    Do you mean dahlias?

Yes, or they will stop blooming. Are yours blooming already? Mine just came up.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's late. I'm tired. I've never yet gotten the spell checker to work for me, and I was just too lazy to grab the dictionary. But yes, that's what I meant. I bought a couple at an unnamed chain store, whose initials are HD. They were already in bloom (but just starting.)

My cannas are outside now. Only half ever rooted/sprouted. Same box store sold a dozen in a big bag - some were rotten... A couple are chugging, the rest are inching along, but we've had a several hot days (high 70's-mid-80's, so I'm hoping...)

    Will dead-head the dawleea's manana...

    Thanks,
    Julie

    Default Yet another one

It's peony time here. Might as well make the most of it.

This is a small flower, but very prolific. I love all the variations in peony scents.
