OMG Bruce, it is a CRIME not to have a cat!!! (I understand about getting attached to a cat and losing it..., but it may be worth it if you give it a nice life it might otherwise not have - so many are strays...)

Aneta, your tortoiseshell/ calico is similar to my cat Emily, although both of your cats are beautiful of course. :-) Their ear tufts are unusual though.

Bruce - it's time for another cat, there's nothing wrong with getting attached to another one, they all have such different personalities and a new kitty will train be more than happy to train you to her specifications. Nico would not want you to mourn him forever, he'd be more than delighted that you moved on to a new cat, he's up in kitty heaven watching over you and won't be jealous.

It is funny you all should post this. I believe things happen for a reason. If you noticed that message was posted in June 2012. On Thanksgiving of that year (Niko passed away in November 2010) a little kitten showed-up on the back porch of my folks home. They have several large dogs and live in the middle of the country - no cats around, not much else either thanks to their dogs. Lou was smoking on the back porch and heard a noise coming from under a bunch of junk that had been stacked/stored under the porch to keep it dry. He said he thought it was a cat. Turns out it was a tiny kitten, tiny. It was all alone and no one knows how it got there or where it came from. She had long black hair, not the typical short hair cat usually seen in town (or like Niko). Anyway, I pulled the kitten out from under the junk where she was just out of reach of the dogs. She was so small, she actually fit in my front shirt pocket. I put her in a shoe box and figured she would die over night since she was so tiny. Her eyes were open, so we had a little hope. Anyway, we gave her some milk and left her in my dads mini-greenhouse over night. The next morning the dogs where having a fit and I looked outside to see them gathered in front of the greenhouse glass door. I went to check on her and she was out of the box and waiting by the door of the greenhouse looking right at the dogs like 'come and get me!' hahaha... I got the dogs back and opened the door and put her in my shirt pocket inside my jacket and she stayed there until we brought her back to Arkansas with us that evening. Currently she is a little over a year old and stays in my lap anytime I'm sitting down. She forced her way into our home and hearts. I didn't think I would ever be ready, but she showed me I was. It hurts my heart and makes my eyes tear-up to think I might loose her someday but I gonna love her as much as she will let me until that time when she moves on to be with Niko. I so glad she found me.

    cheers,
    BD
