    Default bird brained neighbors ...

This crane couple strolled through the area off and on for week or so. The one day was particularly memorable. I was talking to a friend of mine on the phone and she asked me what the heck the noise was on my end. At least one of the cranes appeared to be having an arguement with a dog. The crane would call, the dog would bark, the crane would call again the dog would bark, and on and on. For sheer volume, the dog was definitely the loser. The cranes were about 50 or 60 yrds (approx 55m) away.

Early June, this swan family decided to use the pond by my apt. There were 8 cygnets but a month later only saw 7. Don't know if one died or got lost/left behind. (The swans tend to rotate between ponds. The cob (male swan) was kept busy chasing the geese away.

Such cool photos, Paul. Thanks for sharing these. I wish I could keep geese or ducks on my little pond here, but my dogs don't play nice with anything else. It is too bad too as I grew up raising geese and ducks and though they can be noisy, they are really fun to watch.

    cheers,
    BD

every now and then we have 2 mallards that fly by, not sure where the heck they are going in los angeles, but they honk the whole way. i love the little bits of wildlife we occasionally get. i do miss the country and all the critters. enjoy the cranes. they are so serene to watch.
