    Smile Snake visitor....

I grabbed my trichocentrum out of the heavy pot I sit it in so it can't fall over, to run it under the faucet as it seemed dry to me. As I turned on the water I noticed I had a small visitor in the pot. I picked it up by a spike to take pics and ended up dropping it when mr snake decided to start coming out of the pot. lol No screams, just lots of pic's this time. Does anyone know what kind this little guy is?? He was maybe six or seven inches long and thin.

In the second pic you can see the underside has orange spots. His little face was looking at me behind the root...lol. The round eyes tell me he shouldn't be a bad one...but I can't find the id for him online this time.

Rat snake? I'd guess he's finding lots of stuff to eat. We had a couple black racers up on the porch the other day as well. I'm going to have to be a litte more careful picking up pots. They seem to be everywhere lately.

Ooohhkay then, don't think I'm the screaming and lifting my skirts type but it makes me happy, and when I say happy I mean --> that I live in a snake free ( to the most part ) country. Although... we do get the mean type of centipedes, ....hummmmm let's see if I had to choose; Snakes? Centipedes? Snakes? Centipedes? Rock and a hard place, ok I'll be over here in the fetal position in the corner of the sofa.

Oh great goodness - I just flashed back to that snake in my greenhouse leaping out on me from an overhead pot!! hahah... Yes, he appears to be a rat snake. Probably looking for some bugs to snack on.

    cheers,
    BD

The first time a snake jumps on me, i'll have a heart attack and fall over on it!! lol It's bad enough when the gecko's hop onto my arm and run up it...usually half the neighborhood comes to make sure i'm not being chased by something. But a snake...i'd keel over for sure.

It definitely made me throw a few orchids across the space while making a new isle opposite where that snake landed. hahaha...

My knee jerk identification would be some sort of baby cornsnake or rat snake (the two are closely related species). Cute lil guy.
