Default A set of some random Alaska pictures

All of these pictures were taken with my phone. As such the quality isn't all that great, but you can get an idea of things. I have roughly 15,000 pictures on an external HD that I have to sort through and all of that before I can post some really good pictures. I am kind of in a transient state right now (staying at a friend's house) and don't really want to dig everything out until I get set up in my own place. Anyway, enjoy!Name: 2012-07-14 22.29.09.jpg

Top photo is of Mt Healey in the background and the hotel I was working at below it. The rest are just random pictures, and the last one is a pretty blue flower that grows everywhere in the summer.Name: 2012-07-11 13.47.48.jpg

A couple of pictures of Anchorage. The last pictures is of the Sleeping Lady. There's a whole local legend behind her, and where she gets her name.

The first photo is of me out hiking by the inlet outside of Anchorage. (Between the first picture of me up top and this one I had lost a total of 50 pounds in roughly the span of 10 months! Alaska activities get you in shape, and quick!) The second one is of Mt McKinley from Anchorage. It's kind of blurry, but McKinley is the jagged dark part rising up from the horizon. The last one is of the trolley they use for tours in the summer. They had just brought the trolley out when I took this picture, and it was about a week before I left. Also in the back ground is the Hilton where I was working as an accounting auditor. It's the largest hotel in Alaska.

Great photos, Aaron. Thanks for sharing them with us. Loosing 50 lbs changes everything doesn't it. I look forward to more photos from when you were living in Alaska. I've never visited that state, but would like to some day.

    cheers,
    BD

I recommend going there to everyone. It's by far and away one of the most ruggedly beautiful places I have ever been. If you do decide to go one of the cheapest times to go is late August early September (if you plan to go to Denali Park). That's towards the end of the season and all of the places run some very good deals.

Having grown up in Michigan, when I would hear people talk about going to Alaska I thought they had lost their minds. lol I am sure it is absolutely gorgeous, but for me palm trees and warm weather are preferred. Thank you for sharing your pictures, but it left me with one question; how on earth do you grow orchids up there??

I wasn't growing any while I was there. Well, I take that back, I did have a phal but that's it. It can be done, but the type of plants that I prefer require alot more room then what I had. The one greenhouse I visited had a pretty good setup and they could have grown alot more then what they had. However they really weren't too into orchids and the demand is very low there.
I much prefer the warmer climes as well, but it was an experience that I am glad I did. My whole rational was as simple as, well I spent a summer here so I might as well spend a winter too. Growing up in the FL Keys, then spending a couple of years in NY really prepped me for going there. However the mountains in Ny pale in comparison to the mountains in AK. If you are someone that loves the outdoors then Alaska should be a place that you go at some point in your life. Just the rugged beauty of it... Really, words can't properly describe it all
