    Smile Survivors

These are the main survivors in my backyard after the hail storm. They survived mainly by being under the deck mostly. I lost all but one iris bud as well as my veggies.

These are hybrid Columbine flowers. It is our State flower. The dark purple is called 'Remembrance' bred for the infamous high school shooting at Columbine High. I have only seen one insitu (is that how it is spelled?) blooming. Much like the first one.

Lovely Aquilegia. The first does look much like your native Aquilegia caerulea, the Colorado state flower. The yellow is my favorite. Aquilegia canadensis,, orange and yellow, is the one I grew up seeing quite commonly in open woods. They hybridize and self sow easily, so watch for new color combinations popping up wherever you grow 2 or more types together.

A columbine for Columbine does seem an appropriate remembrance.

All are really beautiful, but the final one is stunning. I wish I had some growing in my flowerbeds.

    cheers,

I have some purple ones; seedlings coming up are all blooming the same color as the parents.

I love all shades of columbine, something I always look forward to seeing when I do travel north to Rockies.

Your first picture is especially beautiful.

I love Columbine! I fell in love with them during summers in Colorado. I wish they would grow here, I've tried, but had no luck. Absolutely beautiful. Great photographs!
