    Default Ozzie Birds

Here are a couple of shots, taken in an aviary... you don't get them to hold still like this in the wild. and it had rained, so they are a bit soggy and the pictures had to be taken with a flash.. But I saw many of each of these species in the wild and they are even more fabulous out on the wing, in the sunlight, in flocks of 20 - 30 birds....

The first, Rainbow Lorikeet (not the best example, but gives you a general idea of the colors)

That's funny, Tim! I had friends visiting years ago from New Zealand. We were at my parent's on Long Island (suburb of New York City), hanging out with a cold & frosty on porch. They were going nuts over our local birds - birds that were common and ordinary to me.

Keith asked me, "Hey [pronounced like 'hi'], what's the name of that black one with the red on its wings?" I told him it was a red-winged blackbird, and he thought I was being a smartass...
