    Default Peanut comes clean

It was molting time this past week.

This white/dusty appearance isn't due to the camera or flash. It's actually how she looked.

Now having molted she's back to her normal, darker coloring.

Her nose is pink - has she been into your liquor cabinet, Pavel?

How does molting effect her disposition?

Does she molt like a snake, all one big piece, or just bits and dust come off?

Hey if it keeps my lil girl happy!

Disposition wise it doesn't seem to bother her much. It's not uncommon for her to have less interest in food when a molt is imminent and she's a bit less active but that's about it.

So she's not fearful and overprotective? When many species molt they're very susceptible to indigenous predators, and I wondered if her collective subconscious might freak out a little as she changed skin.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could change skin, when ours no longer suited us? ...Or maybe we do!

Not that I've noticed. Now in contrast, Hairy-et will not eat for a week or so before molting and Masquerade will not eat for a few days before molting. [Masq is very shy by nature so whether she is 'more fearful' during that time is anyone's guess.]

I'm just winging this here, but maybe not eating means in the wild not exposing oneself to predators while searching for food.

Peanut's just more happy-go-lucky by nature.

...Or maybe not eating means that having your whole skin work loose and come off kills your appetite. Haven't had it happen to me yet, but if it does I'll let you know.

Actually Mehera, we shed our entire outer layer of skin every 24hrs [not all at once]. That's the main source of dust in one's home.
