My Grandmother used to feed rice to a south American species of that dove (redder and a bit smaller, same patterns and color though). This bird had a bad leg and used to limp to the rice. It would come to the backyard every day at around 10 in the morning to eat till one day a healthy one came and took over. Well my Grandmother wouldn't feed the bully and very shortly there after we stopped seeing the limping dove. We never saw it again.
Uhmmmmm, all the best to the ones you helped raise!!!!!

What a neat memory, Tindo! Where in South America did your grandmother live?

Nature serves up tender moments like Cin's doves, but then is just as quick to remind us not to draw too many human conclusions... (ie, my cat eats Cin's doves, or when you stop feeding the bully dove, the nice gimp disappears.)

We can only marvel. True understanding falls just beyond our grasp.
