    Default My Pet Snail

I know that most of you consider them pests and annililate them. But, for several months I had one living in my kitchen. I received a plant for Mother's Day 2005 and sat it on my kitchen cabinet. One night about 11:00 I walked by and did a double take as a little snail about I inch long was sitting on my cabinet. Now, that is very unusual as snails are not common in the desert and never in the house. I watched for awhile and he climbed back up into the pot. The next night there he was again. So I put down a piece of lettuce and he started chomping away. When he finished he would go back up into the pot and bury himself. I found out that he also loved tomatoes. Each night I would put something down and some nights he would come out while I was still up and others later on. You could always tell where he had been taking bites from the food I left. Since he came out so late only my husband and I ever saw him. But, I took the attached pictures. He did this for several months then disappeared. I figured he went into hibernation, but he never came out again. Just one of the little things that make life so interesting.

Oh he's a cute little guy! He didn't eat your plants? Guess you kept him well fed.

I've never read such heart warming tale about a snail.
Anyway, I too have pet snail. I forgot the type it is, but I've had it since the April rains.

Sorry no heart warming story here except that it eats dead fern leaves, and has had thousands of babies. Its living with my green tree frog.

What a nice and polite house, or should I say, planter guest.

He has a beautiful shell, too. Hmmm.... I use shells in my crafts. Would you like me to preserve him for you post mortem? You remove the body of course!

Desertgal: What if "he" went somewhere to lay eggs because of all the strengh and nourishment you have provided? Maybe there are baby snails in your future! Better than baby mealies I suppose!

I agree about the baby snails too.
My tank now has a radioactive sign haning on it, cuase of all the tons of baby snails its got in it. Soon I'll evacuate the green tree frog from there.
