    Default One Bad Caterpillar

This guy ate a two inch in jalapeno in one day. On closer inspection, he had eaten a bunch of my jalapenos before that! I'm sure not messing with him! Anybody know what he is?

Actually I think that it is a tomato hornworm catter second cousin to the Tobacco Hornworm, They are noctornal feeders attacking anything in the nightshade family. They do hatch into one of the beautiful Sphinx Moths hardly much consolation for losing your peppers.

    Tindo,

I know your new avatar is your namesake, but your old one was so cute and cuddly. This one keeps me awake at night!

    How about something more...less scary?

The Sphinx moth is a rather large moth and pretty cool to boot. Considering his size he's just about done munching. If you're interested in letting him pupate to see the adult form, then get a container and put about 3 to 4 inches of soil in the bottom. Transfer him to his new home and continue putting leaves from the peppers, tomato plants or dill plants for him to munch. When he's ready to pupate he'll burrow into the soil. Can't remember if they overwinter that way or if they emerge before winter sets in.
